The Journey Home
Well, the day has finally arrived upon which we must begin our journey back to the states. After saying our goodbyes and shedding tears, when we load up all the cars for the 4 hour drive back to Ouagadougou at 10am. I remember thinking on the journey back, driving the same road, how much I had grown in such a short time there. It was funny how just a little more than week in country changed my perspective. Once we arrived in Ouaga, we had a late lunch at a wonderful Turkish restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious!
After our meal, we went to a shopping area to buy little souvenirs to take back home. I got Simona a drum (of course) and Iliana a music box. And I looked all over to find Amy some fabric and finally found some. One if the neat practices there was that it was expected that you haggle with the shop owners to work out a price. It was a fun experience. After shopping we rushed back to the mission to get cleaned up for our 9pm flight out of Ouagadougou. After frantically getting to the airport, through security, and on the plane, it started to hit us that we were leaving. That and the fact that when they closed the door on the plane, flight attendants went down each aisle with a air freshener/fogger type device. I guess after spending over a week in country, I had gotten used to the smell. And that was our last (new) experience in Burkina Faso.
And the last Missionary Minute video…
